Q: Who can apply to LEAD?
Applicants must:

Q: What are the application requirements?
There are several requirements for the application:

A complete biographical questionnaire (part of the application)

Two original essays (500 words in length)

Two recommendation forms (academic and personal)

A $35 non-refundable administrative processing fee
Q: When is the deadline to apply?
The deadline to submit an application is February 5, 2009.
Q: What is the cost?
Tuition for the LEAD Summer Business Institute is $900 for three-week programs; $1200 for four-week programs. Additional program activity fees (up to $250) may apply depending on the SBI activity requirements. Roundtrip airfare is not included in tuition costs.
Partial or full tuition and travel grants are available to students who require financial assistance. Upon acceptance into the program, you will be asked to submit financial disclosure information.
Q: When should an applicant take the standardized PSAT/PLAN tests?
In order to ensure that the LEAD National office receives an applicants standardized test scores by the application deadline of February 5, applicants are strongly encouraged to take the PSAT, SAT or ACT by October of their junior year to make the February 5 deadline. The LEAD Admissions Committee only reviews completed applications.
Q: Can I apply if I am not sure if I want to pursue a career in business?
Yes. Every profession involves a business transaction. Candidates who have an interest in or an open mind about pursuing a career in business are strongly encouraged to apply.
Q: What is the likelihood that a LEAD participant will be placed at one of the top five schools he/she has selected on the application?
Every effort is made to place selected LEAD participants at one of the five schools he/she has selected on the application. However, there is no guarantee that a student will be placed at his or her school of choice.
Q: What are the benefits of participating in LEAD?
Undergraduate schools of LEAD affiliated business schools actively recruit SBI participants. During the program, students have an opportunity to meet with the undergraduate admissions officers to explore their interest in applying during their senior year. Once a participant completes the program and becomes a LEAD alumnus, they are eligible to apply for college scholarships and summer internship opportunities with LEAD corporate sponsors, as well as participate in regular networking events with LEAD partners.
Q: What kind of clothes should a student bring to a LEAD Summer Business Institute?
LEAD participants will visit several corporations during the summer, each student should bring casual and business attire. Suits/sport jackets with dress shirts and ties are appropriate business attire for male students. Suits/dresses with stockings and close-toe shoes are appropriate business attire for female students. Once accepted into the program, students will receive the dress code specific to the program they will be attending.
Q: What are the living arrangements for LEAD students?
All LEAD participants live on campus in college dormitories with separate living quarters for male and female students. Two adult directors and four to six resident advisors supervise the LEAD participants 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Q. Are relatives allowed to take a student off campus during his/her time at the program?
No, LEAD participants must remain on campus for the entire duration of the LEAD program.
Q. Are family members or friends allowed to visit a student on campus?
No, LEAD participants are not allowed to have any visitors during their time at the program.
Q: Will someone meet the LEAD students at the airport, bus or train station?
Yes. A LEAD representative will meet each student arriving by airplane, bus or train at the appropriate terminal.
Q: Can admitted students change their LEAD Summer Business Institute assignments?
Admitted students cannot change their LEAD Summer Business Institute assignment. All participants are placed according to a prescribed geographic mix of students that cannot be easily changed. A wait list is used to assign replacements when a student cannot accept the original appointment.
Q: If a LEAD participant has another obligation (e.g. summer program, sports camp etc.) that coincides with the first day of the LEAD Summer Business Institute, can the participant miss the beginning of the program?
No. Students should inform LEAD National immediately with the dates of their sports camps, etc. Wherever possible, LEAD will try to assign the student to another program that starts at a different time. LEAD participants must attend the entire LEAD Summer Business Institute and are not allowed to miss any part of the program.
